Mario Kart Wii Channel

The Mario Kart Wii Channel builds on the huge online community of Wii owners and lets players compete in tournaments, check worldwide rankings, see when their friends are playing and download ghost data. In order to add the Mario Kart Wii Channel to your Wii console's system menu, you must install it from a Mario Kart Wii game disc.

 

Adding (installing) Mario Kart Channel to your Wii menu

  • Adding (installing) the Mario Kart Wii Channel to your Wii menu:.

    1. Insert the Mario Kart Wii game disc into the Game Disc slot on the front of the console.
    2. On the Wii menu, select the Game Disc Channel to start Mario Kart Wii.
    3. On the "Select License" screen, click on the "Settings" icon in the top right corner.
    4. Select "Mario Kart Channel," "yes", and "Install."


    Settings

     

  • Set your region:

      Mario Kart Wii has some features (Nintendo WFC globe and Time Trial Ghost) which allow your region (state or province) to be displayed. For these features to work, you must first set your region.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, select "Settings."
    2. Select "Network Settings," then select "Your Region."
    3. Select "OK" to reach the region screen.
    4. If a region is already selected, it will be displayed on the screen.

      If the region is already correct, select "OK" to return to the Wii Menu.

    5. If no region has been selected, or if the region is incorrect, select "Change Settings," then select the desired state (or province), then select "Confirm."
    6. Note: If the states or provinces listed here are incorrect, the Wii console's country setting may be incorrect. Click here information on changing this setting.

     

     

  • Change the region display settings:

      Mario Kart Wii has some features (Nintendo WFC globe and Time Trial Ghost) which allow your region (state or province) to be displayed. You can select whether or not you want your region to be displayed.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, select "Settings."
    2. Select "Network Settings," then select "Region Profile."
    3. Select "Next," then select select one of the following options:

      Display: Allow your region to be displayed
      Don't Display: Do not allow your region to be displayed

    4. Press the 2 Button (or A Button) to return to the Select License screen.

     

     

  • Change the message options:

      The Mario Kart Wii channel can send messages to let you know about Mario Kart Wii tournaments and special ghosts. Regardless of whether this setting is on or off, notices essential to game play will be sent.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, select "Settings."
    2. Select "Network Settings," then select "Message Delivery."
    3. Select "Next," then select "Yes" to opt in to receiving messages or "No" to opt out.
    4. Press the 2 Button (or A Button) to return to the Select License screen.

     

     

  • Change Data Exchange Options:

      When playing Mario Kart Wii, you can select to have your Mii, nickname, record, and ghost data sent to Nintendo automatically. This information could also be viewable by other players.

      Important: Because this information may be viewed by other players, we recommend against using real names or personally identifiable information.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, select "Settings."
    2. Select "Network Settings," then select "Data Exchange."
    3. Select "Next" twice, then select "Permit" to allow your data to be sent to Nintendo or "Prohibit" to chose not to send this data to Nintendo.
    4. Press the 2 Button (or A Button) to return to the Select License screen.

     

     

  • Allow or Disable Viewing of Other People's Miis:

      While playing Mario Kart Wii, you can opt to view the Miis other people have created, or you can chose to replace other people's Miis. Other people's Miis can appear in Nintendo WFC matches, rankings, and other places in Mario Kart Wii.

      Important: Because this information may be viewed by other players, we recommend against using real names or personally identifiable information.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, select "Settings."
    2. Select "Network Settings," then select "Other People's Miis."
    3. Select "Next," then select from the following options:

      Display As They Are: Display other players' Miis as they are (this option may allow for viewing of inappropriate Miis)
      Replace and Display: Replace other players' Miis with Miis created by Nintendo

    4. Press the 2 Button (or A Button) to return to the Select License screen.

     

     

  • Adjust the Nintendo GameCube Controller Rumble Feature:

      You can select whether the Nintendo GameCube controller's rumble feature should be on or off while playing Mario Kart Wii.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, select "Settings."
    2. Select "Network Settings," then select "Other People's Miis."
    3. Select "Nintendo GameCube Controller," then select "Yes" to turn the rumble feature on or "No" to turn it off.

 


Friends

 

  • See Which Friends are Playing Mario Kart Wii Online:

      You can view your Mario Kart Wii friends on a globe and see whether they're currently playing Mario Kart Wii online.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, chose the desired player profile.
    2. Select "Friends," then select "Find a Friend."
    3. Your registered friends will appear across the top of the screen. Select the desired friend to view their current status.
    4. Note: Friends that you have registered, but have not registered you, will show up as question marks.

     

     

  • Register a Friend:

      You can register a friend code for Mario Kart Wii through the Mario Kart Wii Channel.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, chose the desired player profile.
    2. Select "Friends," then select "Register a Friend."
    3. Enter the friend code, then select "OK" to confirm.

     

     

  • Find your Friend Code:

      You can find your friend code in the Mario Kart Wii channel.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, chose the desired player profile.
    2. Select "Friends,".
    3. Your 12-digit friend code will be displayed near the bottom of the screen.

     


    Time Trial

     

  • View Time Trial Rankings:

      You can view the time trial rankings for specific courses amongst friends, regionally, or worldwide. This allows you to see how your score compares to the rest of the world.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, chose the desired player profile.
    2. Select "Rankings," then select "Time Trial Rankings."
    3. Select the left and right arrows at the top of the screen to change the course, and select the left and right arrows beneath that to change between Friend, Regional, and Worldwide.
    4. A graph will appear showing Miis along a bar representing the time in minutes and seconds it took for each of the Miis represented to complete the race.

     

     

  • Compete in Time Trial Rankings:

      You can compete in the Time Trial rankings. Other players may be able to see your score and compete against your ghost data.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, chose the desired player profile.
    2. Select "Rankings," then select "Time Trial Rankings."
    3. Select the left and right arrows at the top of the screen to select the desired course, and select the left and right arrows beneath that to change between Friend, Regional, and Worldwide.
    4. A graph will appear showing Miis along a bar representing the time in minutes and seconds it took for each of the Miis represented to complete the race.
    5. Select any of the Miis highlighted with blue circles, then select "Start This Race" to compete in Time Trial rankings. The ghost data of the opponent you selected will appear as you race - this is not a real-time race.

     

     

  • Watch Time Trial Replays:

      You can watch a replay of a time trial race. Only certain races are available to view, including your own time trial, the regional and worldwide leaders, and a worldwide rival (a player whose time is slightly better than yours).

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, chose the desired player profile.
    2. Select "Rankings," then select "Time Trial Rankings."
    3. Select the left and right arrows at the top of the screen to change the course, and select the left and right arrows beneath that to change between Friend, Regional, and Worldwide.
    4. A graph will appear showing Miis along a bar representing the time in minutes and seconds it took for each of the Miis represented to complete the race.
    5. Select any of the Miis highlighted with blue circles, then select "Watch the Replay" to view that person's race.

     

     


    Ghost Data

     

  • Race a Random Ghost:

      You can race against ghost data from around the world. The ghost data is selected at random.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, chose the desired player profile.
    2. Select "Ghosts," then select "Ghost Race."
    3. Select "Next" to connect to the Nintendo WFC, then select "Start This Race" to begin racing.

     

     

  • Race Against Downloaded Ghost Data:

      You can race against ghost data sent daily from Nintendo. Up to 32 downloaded ghosts can be stored per license.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, chose the desired player profile.
    2. Select "Ghosts," then select "Downloaded Ghosts."
    3. Select the left/right arrows to scroll through the available downloaded ghosts, then select "Start This Race" to begin racing.

     

     

  • Watch Downloaded Ghost Data:

      You can watch the ghost data that's sent daily from Nintendo. This can help to see the strategies that player used during their race so you can prepare for your own race.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, chose the desired player profile.
    2. Select "Ghosts," then select "Downloaded Ghosts."
    3. Select the left/right arrows to scroll through the available downloaded ghosts, then select "Watch the Replay" to see the saved race.
    4. Note: Press the 2 Button or A Button to bring up the following menu while watching ghost data:

      • Continue Replay: Continue watching the replay
      • Restart Replay: Start the replay over from the beginning
      • Start Race: Race against the ghost data currently being viewed
      • Quit Replay: Quit and return to the previous screen

     

     

  • Erase Downloaded Ghost Data:

      You can erase the ghost data that's sent daily from Nintendo. Only 32 downloaded ghosts can be stored per license, so this allows to make room for new ghost data.

    1. From the Mario Kart Wii Channel Select License screen, chose the desired player profile.
    2. Select "Ghosts," then select "Downloaded Ghosts."
    3. Highlight the ghost you wish to delete, and select "erase".
