Check Mii Out Channel
Available as a free download from the Wii Channels section of the Wii Shop Channel, the Check Mii Out Channel allows you to show other people the Miis you have created, and to view Miis created by other people from around the world. You can also create Miis based on unique themes and submit them as apart of a contest or even help judge Miis to find the winners.
Please note that a compatible
internet connection is required to use the Check Mii Out Channel (click
here if you
need assistance connecting your Wii console online). If you wish to receive messages from Nintendo (such as announcements on contests and results), the WiiConnect24
feature must be turned on (more
info).
What sort of information do you need?
Downloading the Check Mii Out Channel:
- Ensure that your Wii console is connected to the internet. If
you need assistance connecting your Wii console online, click
here.
- Check to make sure you have the latest update for your Wii console (click here for more information).
- Select the Wii Shop Channel from the Wii Menu. If you have not
previously accessed the Wii Shop Channel, you will need to read
and agree to the User Agreement. For information on locating the
User Agreement, click here.
- Once the welcome screen is displayed, select "Start Shopping."
- Select "Wii Channels" from the Wii Shop main menu, and
then "Check Mii Out Channel."
- Click the "Free" button, then "OK", and then "Yes" to begin the download process.
- After the Check Mii Out Channel finishes downloading, it
will be added to your available channels in the Wii Menu.
Accessing the Check Mii Out Channel:
If you have not yet downloaded the Check Mii Out Channel, you will need to do so through the Wii Shop

Important: A new version of the Check Mii Out Channel became available on January 30, 2008. In order to use the Check Mii Out Channel, you must first get the newest version from the "Wii Channels" section of the Wii Shop Channel. The download is available at no cost.
- With the Wii console properly connected online (how
to), use the
Wii Remote to select
"Everybody Votes" from the Wii console's main menu.
- If this is your first time accessing the Check Mii Out Channel after
you have downloaded it, you will need to do a couple of things
first before you can use this channel. Click
here for
instructions.
First Time Set Up:
- If you have not already done so, you will need to download the Check Mii Out Channel, so that appears in your Wii Channel menu. For step-by-step downloading instructions, click
here.
- Download any necessary Wii System Updates.
- On the Wii Channel main menu, select the Wii icon on
the bottom left of the screen.
- Select "Wii Settings."
- Select "Internet."
- Use the Wii Remote to select the blue arrow along
the right side of the screen twice, to reach "Wii System
Settings 3" and select "Wii System Update."
- If you receive a message that no updates are available,
proceed to step #3. If an update is available, select "Yes" to
confirm and begin the download.
- From the Wii console main menu, use the Wii Remote (player 1 only)
to select the Check Mii Out Channel, then select Start to
begin.
- Since this is your
first time accessing the Check Mii Out Channel after you have downloaded
it, you will need to do a couple of things first:
Register your Mii Artisan
Before you start using the Check Mii Out Channel, you will have to register a Mii as your Mii Artisan. Your Mii Artisan is your signature; any Mii you submit to a contest or send to the Posting Plaza will be "signed" with your Mii Artisan.
To register your Mii Artisan:
- From the "Register your Mii Artisan" menu, select "Next" to reach the Mii selection screen.
- A list of available Miis will appear (click
here for more info about Miis). Use the Wii Remote
to point at the Mii you would like to use, and press
the A Button.
- Select "Yes" to confirm this the Mii you would like
to use.
- Select "OK" when notified that the Mii
you would like to use has been registered.
- You will now have the option to join the "message service" to have the latest news from the Check Mii Out Channel posted to your Wii Message Board (this is a great way to to be notified of when current contests are available, and you can end the service at any time). Select "Join" to join the service, or "Don't Join" to avoid joining the message service.
- Your Check Mii Out Channel is now ready to be used.
Posting Plaza:
The Posting Plaza lets you post your Favorite Miis for all the world to see, and lets you view and vote on your favorites.

Post / Repost a Mii:
You can post your Miis for others to view. People will be able to import your Miis to their Mii Plaza, add your Miis to their favorites, view information about them, etc.
- From the Check Mii Out Channel main menu, select "Posting Plaza."
- Select the "Post" button from the upper-right. Select "Next" twice, then select "Post."
- Select the Mii you wish to post, then select "Yes" to post it.
View Miis:
You can view Miis that other people have posted. You can then import them to your Mii Plaza, add them to your favorites, view information about them, etc.
- From the Check Mii Out Channel main menu, select "Posting Plaza."
- Miis from the category listed on the bottom-middle of the screen will automatically be shown (the default is Popular), with a maximum of 50 at one time on the screen.
(For "Popular" and "Grab Bag," select the "1/10" arrow button in the bottom right corner to view 50 more Miis at a time, for a maximum total of 500 available to view.)
- When you have found a Mii you would to get a closer look at, point at the Mii and press the A Button to view it.
Note: To change categories, select the category button in the lower-middle of the screen, then select "Popular," "Top 50," "Grab Bag," or "Favorites."
Search for Miis Others Have Posted:
You can search for the Miis that you've posted in the Posting Plaza. You can then view the Mii to see it's poplularity rating, entry number, etc.
- From the Check Mii Out Channel main menu, select "Posting Plaza."
- Select the "Search" button (looks like a magnifying glass), then select the "Change" button next to Gender or Skills to select the desired results.
- Select the "Search" button to display 50 Miis that match your search.
Search by Artisan:
While viewing a Mii that you like, you can select to view all of the Miis posted by that artisan.
- While viewing a Mii, select "Profile" to view more information about the Mii."
- Select the Mii Artisan icon in the bottom-right corner to view all Miis posted by that artisan.
Search for Miis That You Have Posted:
You can view Miis that other people have posted. You can then import them to your Mii Plaza, add them to your favorites, view information about them, etc.
- From the Check Mii Out Channel main menu, select "Posting Plaza."
- Select the lower-middle button (default is "Popular"), then select the icon for your Mii Artisan in the lower-right corner.
- The Miis posted by your Mii Artisan will appear on the screen. You can select them to view more information.
Search for Miis by Entry Number:
You can search for a specific Mii that someone has posted using the Mii's entry number. You can then select them to import them to your Mii Plaza, add them to your favorites, view information about them, etc.
- From the Check Mii Out Channel main menu, select "Posting Plaza."
- Select the "Search" button (looks like a magnifying glass), then select the "Change" button from the upper-right of the screen.
- Select "Enter #", then enter the desired number. Select "OK," then select "Search" to find the Mii that matches the number entered.
View a Mii's Entry Number:
You can post your Miis for others to view. People will be able to import your Miis to their Mii Plaza, add your Miis to their favorites, view information about them, etc.
- From the Check Mii Out Channel main menu, select "Posting Plaza."
- Select the "Post" button from the upper-right. Select "Next" twice, then select "Post."
- Select the desired Mii, then select "Yes." The Entry Number will be displayed on the screen if the Mii has already been posted. (If it has not already been posted, the Mii will be posted and the Entry Number will be displayed.)
- Select "Quit" to return to the Posting Plaza without re postingthe Mii.
To Save ("Import") a Mii to your Wii console:
You can save Miis to your Mii Channel. Please note that Miis saved from the Check Mii Out channel cannot be edited.
- From the Check Mii Out Channel main menu, select "Posting Plaza."
- Select the category you would like to pick from "Popular," "Top 50," "Grab Bag," or "Favorites."
- Select the desired Mii you would like to save.
- Select "Import Mii" to save the Mii to your Wii console's Mii Channel.
Contests:
The Check Mii Out Channel features the "Contest" area, where users compete to create the most accurate likeness of a person or theme suggested by Nintendo.

Enter a Contest:
You can enter a Mii you've created in a contest. Otherplayers will then be able to judge your Mii and how well it fits the contest theme.
- From the Check Mii Out Channel main menu, select "Contest."
- The "Enter" tab will automatically be selected, and a list of current contests will be shown. Select the desired contest.
- Select "Enter," then select "Next" twice. Select "Submit," then select the Mii you would like to use to enter the contest.
If you have not already created a Mii for this contest, you can select "Make a Mii" instead of "Enter." (This will take you to the Wii Menu; where you will need to select the Mii Channel from there.)
- Select "Yes" to enter the Mii in the contest, then press the A Button to return to the contest menu.
Judge Miis in a Contest:
During the judging period (approximately one week), users judge the submitted Mii's. Each user is shown 10 random Mii's from the pool of all Miis submitted. You can then choose the one of those particular 10 Mii's you thinks best fits the theme of the contest. You can repeat this process as many times as you want during the judging period.
- From the Check Mii Out Channel main menu, select "Contest."
- Select the "Judge" button, and a list of contests currently available for judging will be shown. Select the desired contest.
- Press the A Button three times to view a selection of Miis available. Select the Miis you feel best fit the contest description, then select "Select this Mii" to select it as one of your three favorites.
(Select the "Swap Out" icon from the lower-right to view a new random selection of Miis (the Miis you've already selected will remain on the screen). You can also select a Mii again and select "Deselect" to remove it.)
- Repeat Step 3 until all three favorites have been selected. Select "Cast a Vote," then "Yes" to complete the Judging process, then press the A Button three times to return to the Judging screen.
Viewing the results of a Contest:
You can view the results of a contest. What is shown will vary depending on whether you entered or judged the contest.
- From the Check Mii Out Channel main menu, select "Contest."
- Select the "Results" button, and a list of contests that have finished judging will be shown. Select the desired contest.
- If you submitted a Mii for the contest, you will be shown an animation where the Mii runs up a mountain (how far up the mountain the Mii goes represents how well it did). You will then be given a rank. Select "Next" to continue.
- If you judged Miis in the contest, you will be shown an animation where the Miis you selected run up a mountain (how far up the mountain the Mii goes represents how well it did). You will then see a message telling you how well you did at picking Miis. Select "Next" to continue.
- If you submitted Miis or judged Miis, you will be shown a summary of your results. Select "Next" to continue.
- If you submitted a Mii for the contest, you will be given the opportunity to take a souvenier photo. Press the Control Pad to adjust the pose, then point to where you want to place the Mii and press A. Repeat with the Mii Artisan, and press A to take the photo.
- You will be shown the Mii who won the contest. Select "Congratulations!" to continue.
- You will be shown the top 50 Miis in a parade. You can select the "Arrange" button on the right to show them all at once instead of in a parade. Select "Back" to return to the Contest screen.
To Save ("Import") a Mii to your Wii console:
You can save Miis to your Mii Channel. Please note that Miis saved from the Check Mii Out channel cannot be edited.
- From the Check Mii Out Channel main menu, select "Contests."
- Select an available contest (whether it is for results or to judge).
- Select the desired Mii you would like to save.
- Select "Import Mii" to save the Mii to your Wii console's Mii Channel.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I use a Mii that migrated from another system?
No, you can only use Miis that were created on the console. If you have a Mii that was moved from another system, it will need to be re-created on your console before it can be posted on the Check Mii Out channel.
Can I register more than one Mii Artisan?
Only one Mii Artisan can be selected per console.
How can I restrict access to the Check Mii Out Channel?
Access to the Check Mii Out Channel can be restricted through the use of the Parental Control settings of the Wii console. To restrict the use of this channel, in the "Other Settings" section of Parental Controls, select "Yes" to "Restrict online user-to-user communication and the exchange of user generated content." Troubleshooting
- Unable to use any Check Mii Out Channel functions
If you are receiving error codes whenever you try to do anything on the Check Mii Out Channel (such as post a Mii, enter a contest, change the Mii Artisan, etc.), this indicates that your channel data does not match your console. To resolve this issue, you must delete the Check Mii Out channel save data from the data management screen (not the channel management screen).
- Error Message: "The Mii you assigned as your Mii Artisan has been erased"
This means that the Mii Artisan has been deleted from the Mii Channel. You will need to select another Mii as your Mii Artisan before you can use the Check Mii Out Channel again.
- Error Message: "You can't post a Mii you've received from someone else."
This message will appear if you attempt to post a Mii that was not created on your console. If you have a Mii you would really like to post but it was not created on your Wii, you can try and recreate it in the Mii Channel.
- Error Message: "You cannot submit this Mii."
This message will appear if you attempt to submit a Mii that was not created on your console. If you have a Mii you would really like to submit but it was not created on your Wii, you can try and recreate it in the Mii Channel.
- Error Message: "Sorry, but you can't assign a Mii someone else sent you to be your Mii Artisan."
This message will appear if you attempt to assign a Mii that was not created on your console as your Mii Artisan. If you have a Mii you would really like to use as your Mii Artisan, but was not created on your Wii, you can try and recreate it in the Mii Channel.
- Error Message: "The current settings do not allow WiiConnect24 to be used"

- Error Message: "You are unable to use the Check Mii Out Channel. Please download the newest version of the Check Mii Out Channel from the Wii Shop Channel." (Error Code 252103)
